Mission Statement

MISSION STATEMENT

“TO MINISTER TO THE WHOLE PERSON, SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY BY LIVING LIFE IN FULLNESS EVERYWHERE"

What is a Mission?

Mission is what needs to be done to accomplish the vision. Mission is the task at hand. The vision is the destination but the mission is the journey that will take us there.

To embark on a journey then, the following will be necessary;

1.A clear picture of the destination

At Word of Life we are very clear about the destination: we want to see the community affected for Christ through transformed people living life in fullness ;spirit,soul and body.

2.A strong motivation or reason for the journey

Why should we want people to be transformed,to live life in fullness everywhere affecting the community for Christ;

a.)Because mankind lost his Godly image,likeness and dominion

 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men.(Romans 5:12)

b.) Because lost persons produce lost communities and lost communities will degenerate into all kinds of moral,spiritual and social bankruptcy,depravity and darkness.

c.) Because Our Lord Jesus Christ came to seek individuals as well as whole communities in his search to redeem mankind.

" For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."(Luke 19:9)

d.)the great commission gives us the responsibility of individual lives and the cities they dwell in.

"And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation."

e.)Because life on earth is not how it was meant to be.

3. A map of the journey

The Bible gives us a map of our journey;

a.we start where we are

b.we start with those nearest or closest

c.we start by affecting individuals,then families and then cities

d.we will need to walk by faith and not by sight

e.we will need to walk in love & compassion

f. we will need to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit

4.A method of transport.

This will answer the question; what means will take us to the destination.We will reach our destination by doing the following 5 Key Areas;

1.Growing in the numbers we affect and transform

2.Growing in quality leadership in every sector at every level

3.Growing in effective ministry systems

4.Growing in community,national and international impact

5.Growing  in resources

5.Preparation for the journey

The journey to the top of a mountain requires months of physical,mental and skills training.

The Word of a Life International Ministries mission directs us to do several things as well:

A.LIVE LIFE IN FULLNESS EVERYWHERE

B.MINISTERING TO THE WHOLE PERSON;Spirit,Soul & Body

A person is a threefold being, they have a Spirit which is the God-conscious part of their being ,they have a soul which is their rational consciousness and a body through which the spirit and soul operates .But Man is essentially a Spirit because God is a spirit and we are made in His image.We are a three part being because God is a three part being as God the father,God the son and God the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit

The Church must firstly and primarily minister to the core or essence of life which is the Spirit.

Proverbs 20:27

The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts.

Ecclesiastes 11:5

As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.

1Thess 5:23

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This ministry to the Spirit is facilitated through ;

Salvation by the blood of Jesus through the name of Jesus

Growth and maturity through the word

Empowerment and direction through the Holy Spirit

The Soul

While man is a Spirit, he connects and contacts this world through his soul (that is his mind) and body.

1Thess 5:23

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1Peter 2:11

Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.

The soul or mind of a person is made up of 4 elements;

1.The Will -man's ability to make decisions and choices

The will makes the decisions based on the information from the intellect,emotions and imagination.

2.The Intellect - man's ability to to reason

The intellect ,(that is your ability to receive,recognize and process information)collects, processes and stores information from the external environment (through the body) ,the emotions and memory.

3.The Emotions -man's ability to feel

Emotions are primarily reactions to our value and evaluations of situations thus if l change your value-system and your evaluation of circumstances, l will change your emotions. Emotions are also the result of bio-chemical configurations in our bodies as well as environmental atmospheres. So emotions are the product of personal values,state of the mind,environmental atmospheres and bio-chemical state that a person might be in.

4.The Imagination / Creativity -man's ability to imagine and create

The human being is the only species that can imagine and create an alternative to their reality.

The Body

The Body is the house that keeps the Spirit and Soul in contact with the material and environmental world. Without the body and without a healthy body at that, the Spirit and Soul may find it difficult to operate well and unhindered.

The body relates to the external world and the physical world. The physical world is important to the body if the body is to remain healthy and strong. In ministering to the body therefore, the Church must minister to and through the physical environment that influences the body.

That is why, feeding the poor, building clinics and drilling boreholes for clean water is as equally important as educating the mind or training the human spirit. The three are intricately connected and true ministry must minister to all three entities of man.

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.(James 2:14-17)

Every person brings into his world the influence of the people they interact with and the influence and power of the institutions that govern certain activities or areas of life. Every person also carries their influence into the relations  and institutional organisations they interact with in their activities or areas of life.
